The Road To Success

Inspiration can lead a long road to success. But it takes lots more. There are many would-be entrepreneurs who wish to make lots of money by simply finding a good domain name for a startup DMP (Domain Marketplace) website. Many think that if you just have the perfect domain name, then snapo, put up a few words and it’ll be easy - all you need is something like 'prestodomain.pro' or 'buydomainsplease.net' or whatever…

The Road To Success

But it’s not the domain name. Hey, try to find and register a domain that sounds like a good DMP and you’ll find tons of would be DMP sites. However, over 90% are undeveloped – and eventually the owner gives up and places his wishful thinking DMP domain for sale. I find them for sale on real Domain MarketPlace sites. I’m just as guilty.

Sedo.com stands, partly, I believe, for Sell Domains. But who cares as long as the public can remember the name? Even 'tqgbfistcuff.me' could be the next SEDO if you work at it and have some help, lots of tenacity, and inspiration. Years ago, I had the world's number one business of its kind. That was no luck but it also doesn't mean I'm gifted, a genius, or anything close to it.

If you find a domain that fits your fancy, then you need a good laptop where you or someone can write good website code with PHP or maybe even ColdFusion, a fast Wi-Fi, a hosting company with a decent server, and a database with SQL or MySQL probably. And a design for the website; a SELL and BUY menu, a payment gateway, a secure domain transfer system, create an intelligent interface to attract both sellers and buyers and with a user-friendly experience for searching, filtering, and purchasing domains. And lots of integrity.
And forget registering domains on your DMP website. Becoming a Registrar is not easy and it will break you to pieces.

And you need a programmer who will not steal your ideas, or learn to program yourself (good luck), and money to pay for everything.
And that’s just the beginning.

Perhaps you’d be better off teaching English. Or handing out towels in a girl’s dressing room.

Or go after your own ideas instead of blindly following the leader. But above all, think of your clients first before yourself. If you have the dream, opportunity is there, big time. So, look around and you’ll find it’s a huge challenge to actually succeed. Not because of the market. Hell, it’s red-hot and has been since the addition of so many TLDs. I started selling domains privately 30 years ago, event.com netted me $150,000. That came in handy but I wasn’t bright enough to have registered carinsurance.com that sold for $49 million USD. My momma never thought I was too bright.

But I work hard and don’t give up easily – and I feel I can be different.
I guess we will see …
